The World Health Organization points to road accidents as the 8th leading cause of death in the world and defines excessive speed as the main cause of road accidents. The existing solutions to reduce vehicle speeds are all depending on the drivers’ behaviour. Pavnext presents the first solution to implement in the infrastructure of the city that reduces the vehicles’ speed without any driver action, without inducing discomfort to the vehicle’ occupants, without generating noise and without requiring for any device in the vehicle.
Pavnext technology is able to convert with very high efficiency the energy harvested from vehicles into electric energy. Since we implement our devices in speed reduction areas, we are recycling a typically wasted energy, lost in the speed reduction process, into a useful type of energy. Also, we store the electric energy produced, so that it can be used only when necessary, in a more efficient way. Then, we can apply this energy to multiple electric devices on-site, with a key application in road safety devices. This energy can also be injected into the electric grid.
Since our devices are implemented in the road pavement, these have a privileged position to monitor traffic data, both in terms of counting vehicles, measuring their speed and weight. Also, it monitors the energy produced and stored in real-time. Combining both data, our solution is able to optimize energy consumptions in real-time and according to the real needs, as well as to provide traffic reports to local and governmental authorities.
When an electric vehicle is being charged from the electric grid, a significant part of the energy that is used to power the vehicle is produced using fossil fuels, making us question the sustainability of electric mobility. By recycling the energy wasted from vehicles in speed reduction areas and convert it into electric energy, one of our key applications is to power electric mobility, turning this into a real eco-sustainable concept, creating a new paradigm in which vehicles are powered by vehicles.
